Biological Resistance of Elm (Ulmus carpinifolia var. Umbelifera) Trees against Fungal Endophytes and White Rot Decay Fungi

چکیده

Urban trees are one of the valuable storage in metropolitan areas. Nowadays, a particular attention is paid to and spends million dollars per year their maintenance. Trees often subjected abiotic factors, such as fungi, bacteria, insects, which lead decline mechanical strength wood properties. The objective this study was determine potential degradation Elm tree by Phellinus pomaceus Biscogniauxia mediteranae endophyte. Biological decay tests were done according EN 113 standard impact bending test accordance with ASTM-D256-04 standard. results indicated that longer incubation time, weight loss increased for both sapwood heartwood. Fungal deterioration leads changes bending. In order manage street trees, knowing characteristics very important should be regularly monitored evaluated identify defects trees.

Resistance to Dutch Elm Disease Reduces Presence of Xylem Endophytic Fungi in Elms (Ulmus spp.)

Efforts to introduce pathogen resistance into landscape tree species by breeding may have unintended consequences for fungal diversity. To address this issue, we compared the frequency and diversity of endophytic fungi and defensive phenolic metabolites in elm (Ulmus spp.) trees with genotypes known to differ in resistance to Dutch elm disease. Our results indicate that resistant U. minor and U...

Decay mechanisms of brown-rot fungi

Brown-rot fungi, e.g. the dryrot fungus (Serpula lacrymans), are the most harmful microorganisms in wood in service in Finland and in temperate regions. Brownrot fungi cause wood decay primarly by attacking the carbohydrates of the cell walls, leaving lignin essentially undigested. At the initial stage of the decay, the brown-rot fungi seem to operate by a mechanism which cause extensive change...

Mechanisms of degradation by white rot fungi.

White rot fungi use a variety of mechanisms to accomplish the complete degradation of lignin and a wide variety of environmental pollutants. Both oxidative and reductive reactions are required for the metabolism of both lignin and environmental pollutants. The fungi secrete a family of peroxidases to catalyze both direct and indirect oxidation of chemicals. The peroxidases can also catalyze red...

Selection of White-rot Fungi for Biopulping*

Different rates of wood decay and ligninolytic activity were found in wood decayed by various white-rot fimgi. Chemical and ultrastructural analyses showed wood decayed by Coriolus versicolor consisted of a nonselective attack on all cell wall components. Lignin degradation was restricted to the cell wall adjacent to hyphae or around the circumference of cell lumina. Decay by Phellinus pini, Ph...
